#enough – Wednesday Admin Post

Happy Wednesday, FAMily!

Today we want to dedicate our action post to the brave children walking out of school and standing up to Congress, the president, and the NRA.

We acknowledge the young people who have been brave like this before – from walkouts, sit-ins, protests and marches for Civil Rights, Women’s Rights, and Human Rights. We stand on their shoulders and honor them so their sacrifices might not be in vain.

We understand how far we must come to lift all voices, believe all people, and cure all suffering. This takes us looking inside and acknowledging our blinders and privilege. Though uncomfortable, it is necessary.

We thank you all for standing with us. For being willing to learn and to teach even when both are difficult and tiring.

We are proud of our group and look to the future for more bright days ahead. We commit to all of you our resolve and dedication to restoring equity and decency to our country.

Nevertheless, She Persisted – Friday Admin Post

Hello FAMily!

Welcome to March! For some of us, it still feels like February, Don’t worry though – we’ve got a lot of action items to heat things up!

First off, March is Women’s History Month. This year the theme is “Nevertheless, She Persisted”, which is obviously a fantastic nod to Sen. Warren and ALL WOMEN who persist in the face of racism, abuse, sexism, discrimination, and oppression.

Another note: we are seeing a large uptick in people adding their friends from outside of our state into our group. We are happy to have representation but this usually means people are just blindly adding members. Please confirm with friends before adding them–we need folks who can and will take action daily for the betterment of our world, and we don’t want people to be spammed by stuff from a group they didn’t join.

1. Call Congress and ask them why gun control legislation is being bumped from voting for a banking bill????? Call Mitch McConnell and other Republicans and demand the cries of children in our country that have been loud for years are being silenced to line the pockets of 45s cabinet.

2. CHECK. YOUR. VOTING. STATUS. We’ve seen some huge red to blue flips in the past weeks and November is the time to continue the wave.

Michigan: http://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,4670,7-127-1633-49313–,00.html

Check out Ballotopia for upcoming issues in your districts

Also, FAM is working to coordinate efforts with other organizations to boost voter registration and turnout. Stay Tuned.

3. WE STILL NEED A CLEAN DREAM ACT. It is disgusting that these campaign promises are left unfulfilled. Call congress and demand they provide a bill for vote that protects our brothers and sisters who deserve dignity and respect.

4. Beto O’Rourke and Randy Price are poised to take out Ted Cruz and Paul Ryan respectively. Donate to their campaign if you can. If you can’t share their campaign information/website and ask friends to get involved.

#BoycottTheNRA and More Actions and News – Wednesday Admin Post

Good morning, FAMily! ❤️
Happy day-before-March! 😊
Today’s edition will be a bit of a hodgepodge – a little something for everyone – some education, some news, and as always, some action items. 😊
Today, the students in Parkland return to school, which means their days will again be filled with academics and homework, and general teenage business. While we need to continue to let our children lead this movement, we need to continue to support and encourage, as well as to pick up where they need us. If you haven’t donated already to their March for Our Lives movement, you can do so here:
Also consider supporting them with your presence. March for Our Lives will be on Saturday, March 24 in Washington, DC. If you are looking for a quick and/or economic trip, there are a number of Rally buses leaving that Friday night and returning Sunday morning (so no hotel stay will be required). Info can be found here:
(Thank you Margaret Alex Kourvo for the info!). 😁
If you cannot make it to DC, please check the March for Our Lives site for a local sister March:
It is worth noting that black students have been calling for gun reform for several years, Please check out their perspective here:
* Y’all have been reading about Dana Loesch making the rounds, as well as comments made by the head of the NRA at CPAC. For all they talk about protecting the second amendment (it’s not going away, nor should it…), and representing “lawful gun owners,” there’s waaaay more going on here, and as usual, it’s all about money.
When looking up membership, there are no definitive numbers for how many “lawful gun owners” are members of the NRA. That’s where there money should be coming from, right? Their “lawful gun owner” members? The people they passionately claim to defend? The organization claims 5M members, but there is literally no way of confirming this. Membership has been leveling off, but their revenue (and thereby more money to influence lawmakers) has been increasing. Hmmmm….curious.
How much money are we talking about floating around out there? Well, hold onto your jaw, lest you need to pick it up from the floor…
CEO Wayne LaPierre makes an average of $1M per year, except for right before election year, 2015, in which he made over $5M (with $3.8M of that coming from “other” sources). Hmmm…
And, related to our heroes in Florida – the top NRA lobbyist in Florida, sweet little 78 year old Marion Hammer pulled in $206,000 in 2016. Not bad for FIVE HOURS of work per week. (Not a typo -FIVE! ). Some reported years she documented one hour of work per week. This is ONE lobbyist. In ONE state. From where is the money coming??
By the way, sweet little Marion literally WRITES the legislation in Florida. The state has established regulations that if any local official tries to veer from the state gun laws, they can be fined hundreds of thousand of dollars and removed from office.
For more enlightened reading on this topic, check out this piece by esteemed blogger, Mercedes Schneider. If you weren’t pissed about the NRA before, this should do it:
* Where the F..K are the sanctions on Russia?? 😡 Call McConnell and his trusty sidekick Ryan and inquire why, once agency after agency has confirmed they have meddled in our elections (and still are!), and thirteen Russian nationals have been indicted, there are NO ACTIONS being taken against Russia and no activity being taken to protect our midterm elections!
* There is a potential bipartisan DREAM act solution in the works. While it appears the courts are setting aside the March 5 deadline 45 pulled out of his ass, we still need a permanent solution for our DREAMers. Put pressure on your MoC for an accessible path to citizenship.
* New Hampshire flipped another state seat to blue yesterday in another special election. That brings the total to THIRTY NINE! Keep it up! 👏👏👏👏👏
Speaking of, Beto O’Rouke and Randy Brice could probably use some help ousting my pals (🤮) Ryan and Cruz…consider donating to their campaigns or signing up with Postcards to Voters:
* Check our our continuing Black History month educational pieces, by our very own Ayla Azar:
* And, sign up for our BLOG!! An easier way to get our info without it getting lost in your fb feed! 😁
Like I said, LOTS of info! I know I missed a lot, but, well, I really need to get ready for work. 😉. And I KNOW y’all are on top of it. I’m loving the info that you are bringing to our page daily – keep it up, FAMily! You’re doing good work! Thank you! ❤️
Have a great Wednesday!
Anne, Anne, and Jen. ❤️

Monday Admin Post

Happy Monday, FAMily!

Today is the 26th of February–can you believe we are almost to March?

We have a lot of important information today–make sure you read on and take action. There are folks counting on us every single day to use our voices to protect them.

1. March 5th is the deadline that 45 gave congress to rectify the DREAM act. This is a cruel and unusual punishment and more proof that this administration doesn’t care about the promises it made during the campaign.

Call congress EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. and demand they protect these children–as the pro life party, it’s now time to prove they’re not just anti women or pro control and that they actually care about more than just fetuses.

2. Beto O’Rourke is a Democrat in Texas challenging Ted Cruz for his senate seat. There is a primary on March 6th filling this seat blue would mean a HUGE advantage for protecting innocent, marginalized and oppressed people from a legislative perspective. Please make a donation, and share his website on social media. If you can’t make a donation, please share his website on social media and urge others to donate and share. Cruz is a HUGE lapdog of the NRA and is not committed to any sort of reasonable legislation.

3. As we continue to see the brilliance of young students from Parkland FL taking on powerful groups like the NRA and this administration–it is worth noting that the proposed solutions to school shootings will disproportionately endanger the lives of PoC, especially black children. It is now more important than ever to support groups like The NAACP and Black Lives Matter, as well as these students fighting the NRA.

4. Finally, make sure you and everyone you know who is eligible is registered to vote. November elections are coming up quickly and many communities have primaries before then.

As always, we are so pleased and honored to have you with us. We hope you continue to commit to resisting and protecting those who are most vulnerable.

Another Government Shutdown – Friday Admin Post

Happy Friday, FAMily!

Hopefully all of you are safe and warm from this winter storm! Today is a great day to catch up on some past FAM blog posts-check them out here:

Make sure to subscribe with your email to always be kept in the loop (scroll down to the bottom of the page)

Actions and Info:

1. WE STILL NEED A CLEAN DREAM ACT. Besides being a campaign promise of the current administration, the right thing to do is protect DREAMers and build a path to citizenship. While it was appreciated that Rep. Pelosi held the house floor for 8 hours this week to demand a vote on an immigration bill, our elected officials need to hear from us. We should be making this call every day.

2. This month’s Shawarma Law will be taking place this Saturday at 4:00pm at La Pita in Dearborn. Fresh off their TV debut via The Opposition on Comedy Central, theres never been a better time to submit to Shawarma law!

3. Check out this upcoming Attorney General Candidate forum. Electing a democratic AG is CRUCIAL and being informed matters.

4. This second government shut down was another display of garbage GOP politics. Call Paul Ryan’s office and ask him why he continues to let 45 break campaign promises? Why won’t he hold the line on strong values?

As always, we are proud of have you with us! ❤️

National Day of Action for a Dream Act Now – Wednesday Admin Post

Good morning, FAM! ❤️

Today is Wednesday, February 7, 2018. As you can see by our graphic – it is National Day of Action for a Dream Act Now. DACA is set to expire by March 5 (a random deadline decided upon by 45, which literally does not need to be enforced, yet 45 says he will enforce it because he wants his beloved wall…). Call your MoC and demand a plan for our Dreamers, along with a clean, accessible path to citizenship for future immigrants.

Dems picked up a HUGELY red seat in the state legislature yesterday! The tide continues to turn! 😁

We will continue to highlight special elections, but will especially be calling on you to assist with tight races across the countries as we work to regain control of Congress. Keep an eye out for opportunities to call, write, and donate. ❤️

Your FAM admins are meeting this weekend to discuss our progress and plans for the next month and 2018. We will update you early next week. 😊

We’ll see what happens this week with regard to another shut down.

I’m not even going to talk about the stupid parade….🙄😡. Hopefully he’ll be long gone by then, and it will be a moot point. Speaking of which, Mueller is not our fairy godmother. I hope, with all of my heart, that justice will prevail and 45 and his entire band of merry men (and women – I’m looking at YOU, Kellyanne…) are rounded up and get the punishment they deserve (whatever that looks like). But, we have no idea IF and WHEN that is going to happen, so we need to keep pushing FORWARD, as if we are stuck with this asshat for another 3-7 years. We need to mitigate the damage he is doing to our country, our people, our economy, and our environment. Once he is (eventually) gone, we need to fight to make sure this NEVER happens again. I want my sleep back. I want my anxiety levels back to normal. I want a full night’s sleep without restlessness and nightmares. I want to be able to trust my government. Our fight will continue once he is gone, to right our ship and make it ironclad against future attacks on our democracy. Pace yourselves. We’ve got a ways to go yet. ❤️

As always, we appreciate you. Please keep fighting – break out of your comfort zones and push yourself a little farther than you have before. Be bold!

Thank you!! ❤️

Anne, Anne, and Jen. ❤️

Monday Admin Post

Good morning, FAMily! ❤️

We are hurtling our way through the month, on this 5th day of February.

I met (as a representative of FAM) with Representative Levin last week, with a few Indivisible members. He would like us to focus on midterms (as is logical) and stressed the importance of getting a Democrat governor in Michigan. Congress is in session two days this week, and two days next week, with a vote on keeping the budget open occurring by Thursday. Another CR is expected.

After last week’s grandstanding and drama, the Nunes memo was rather anti-climactic. But, it may have exposed more unintentional information than Nunes expected. I don’t want to try to break the memo down here – when doing my own research, it’s really tricky to sift through the partisan skews on the information. I would suggest you read the memo for yourself and make your own conclusions, without media bias. The Republicans think it’s a bombshell for their side, the Dems think the same for their side. Big picture, Nunes is promising more “memos” to come, and the players involved are ignorant (maybe not?) to the damage this is doing to our country.

Each weekday this month, in honor of Black History Month, our fabulous moderator Pip is going to writing an entry with regards to African-American history. Please check out her first installment here:

Black History Month: Latasha Harlins

As always, we ask you to stay aware and stay involved. Read. Watch. But more than that, Read and watch WIDELY. Challenge what you are being fed. Read the same story from multiple sources. Watch for emotional appeal in the news – it helps to identify media bias. Look for qualifying words that are intended to influence your opinion. You have beautiful brains (the best, believe me! 😜) – use them to form your own opinions based on FACTS.

Take care, FAM. ❤️. Enjoy today. Thank you for all you do!

Bob Mueller is Coming to Town – Wednesday Admin Post

Good morning, FAM! ❤️

It is Wednesday, January 31, 2018.

As I chatted with the other admins last night, wondering what we should highlight (lowlight?) today, we realized there is SO MUCH horrible shit going on that we didn’t know where to start. We realize that y’all are keeping up with the news, and you don’t need to be hammered over the head again with it. So, here’s some perspective:

* As mentioned in a previous post, things are going to get worse before they get better. As the handcuffs tighten around 45’s neck, he is not going to go quietly. He is doing everything he can to discredit Mueller and the investigation. And congress is letting him. I’m baffled.

But, Mueller is a consummate professional. He can handle this. (“Yeah, but what if they fire him?” We will revolt. That will be a constitutional crisis – direct violation of our checks and balances that the founding fathers put in place to keep one person/party from gaining too much power).

* Nunes Memo – it’s going to get released – despite many groups, including the DOJ trying to keep it confidential. Nunes is 45’s lap dog, and 45 is grinning and clapping like a 2 year old in front of birthday cake. He can’t WAIT to release it. So, prepare for the fallout from that. (There is a lot of confusion over what the hell this “memo” is – here’s some info: https://www.justsecurity.org/51630/five-questions-nunes-memo-answer/) Kristen Vandoorn Myers thank you for the link! 😊

* Russian sanctions: the ENTIRE congress, House and Senate, save five, voted to impose additional sanctions on Russia (just like the ones we (didn’t) already impose last summer). 45 said “nope.” So, again, thumbing his nose at the Constitution. Call everyone you can think of to demand enforcement of the sanctions THEY voted on.

*MSU is installing John Engler (!!!) as interim president after Lou Anna K. Simon resigned. Feel free to contact the board of trustees to express how you feel about this. Vested interest or not, MSU is a public, taxpayer-supported university. We are ALL invested.

Do we have any good news out there? Of COURSE we do!! ❤️

Join us next Saturday, February 10 at 4 pm at La Pita for the next Shawarma Law Enforcement meeting at La Pita in Dearborn. Here’s a link to the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1441668395955439/?ti=icl If you missed Zahra Ayoub on Comedy Central last week, here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyVLoDv_EIQ We will get through this. Our country will survive. We will emerge more unified and stronger than ever before. We will realize that our process is not perfect and changes need to made to prevent this authoritarian crisis from ever happening again. We will get back on our feet. Take names. Take action. Don’t forget. Move FORWARD.

We love you all. ❤️ Keep working hard!

Dream A Little Dream – Monday Admin Post

Good Morning, FAMily!

We are so grateful to have you with us this week–and we’ve got some work to do.

Before we get started, a few quick reminders: When posting to the group, lonely links will be declined. A lonely link is a post that just contains a link, no commentary or background from the poster or reasons why it is being shared. We delete these because they give the page a spammy feel and they are almost unsearchable. Secondly, on that topic, please SEARCH the page before posting. This prevents splintered conversation and keeps the page clean of repeated information. Lastly, check your PMs–moderators will send messages there if your post needs attention or changes. Note that we don’t always send PMs for lonely links or duplicate posts because we get so many. If a post of yours is not approved, it is more than likely in one of those two categories.

Now, onto action!

1. According to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Congress is planning some sort of vote to ban abortion at 20 weeks. We know this is nothing more than a veiled attempted to control women, especially poor women and women of color, from making choices about their own bodies, and sexual health.

We need to call Republican senators and let them know there are more things to be worried about like DREAMers, homeless veterans, and police brutality.

If you like, you can also add your name to the Senator’s petition against the bill.

2. WE MUST DEMAND A CLEAN DREAM ACT. Now the current administration is going back on their word that they originally went back on after promising it during the election season (who else is dizzy?) and is making all kinds of nonsensical demands. This is all just a delay tactic while ICE thugs round up more parents and grandparents and send them back to countries where they would surely meet a terrible fate.

Call the senate switch board and DEMAND a DREAMER bill today. We cannot wait any longer, we’ve already waited too long. Remind Republicans that their president promised a path to citizenship during the election cycle. They can’t be a pro-life party unless they care about all children, not just the unborn ones.

(202) 224-3121

3. As we continue to be shocked at the level of complacency and enabling happening within USA Gymnastic, the US Olympic Committee and Michigan State University–we must know that other organizations out there have these same issues that have yet to be brought to light.

If you are a current college student, an alumni of a college, or anyone in between, call your Alma Mater and ask them what their policy is for handling reports of sexual assault or rape.

Let’s force some of these schools to fix what’s wrong and prevent a Larry Nassar situation before it starts.

Also, if you are a survivor or rape, sexual assault or abuse, and you need resources, please reach out to any of our admins or moderators for a completely confidential conversation. We are here to help!

As always, we are proud of have you with us. Each day brings us closer to realizing freedom, equity and safety for all people.

We Still Need A Clean Dream Act – Friday Admin Post

Happy Friday, FAMily!

This is our second week of our education series on Social Justice. This week, our awesome moderator Ayla (along with several other awesome contributors) has provided us with an in-depth look at Transgender Individuals and gender education. Thank you, Ayla for helping us grow!

Blog post: https://wp.me/p8b8DR-c8i

1. FAM is committed to elevating members of marginalized groups. We especially acknowledge women of color whose voices are systematically and repeatedly silenced.

Below is a resource to identify women of color running for office. Donate if you can. If you can’t, share this link (click the link and then hit share). We can elevate these women by making their names, faces and causes known.

2. WE NEED A CLEAN DREAM ACT. Besides being a campaign promise of the current administration, the right thing to do is protect DREAMers and build a path to citizenship. The accident of the location of someone’s birth location doesn’t make them more worthy. Call or senators and demand they create and vote on a bill to protect these folks.

3. Tom Cotton (R-AK) seems to think citizens sharing their thoughts and concerns with him are “harassing” and has sent several cease and desist letters to constituents within his state and beyond who disagree with him. So, let’s let him know FAM is not down with that. Please feel free to reach out to Sen. Cotton using any of the methods below:

As always, we’re happy to have you with us this week and always. We will continue to rise up and protect those who need us and become better allies, supporters, and defenders.
